Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone of Mi series quite unremarkable. The Mi phones are always just pretty good, pretty affordable phones.
Following the same league of offering high-end specs in a mainstream design at a reasonable price is the objective of Xiaomi Mi 9. With the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor inside, this smartphone is an absolute monster, and it provides a 45-percent greater performance than its predecessor.
It’s actually a superphone inexpensive enough, making it one of the most desirable phones of 2019.
Speed is the Specialty
This phone works fast, which is evident with the speed with which apps open and then respond. There’s no slowdown, every app, features scrolls smoothly. The Xiaomi Mi 9 is so quick, it makes lightning bolts appear to be sluggish.
The Mi 9 is one of the first smartphones to incorporate the Snapdragon 855. Coupled with 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage space. A version with 12GB of RAM will be introduced in China, but unfortunately, it will not make it to the UK.
In fact, the Xiaomi Mi 9 is a fabulous, high-performance monster of a smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 looks sleek and curvy. The phone is made from glass – Gorilla Glass 5 on the back, and Gorilla Glass 6 over the screen. It is available in four different looks — black, blue, a lavender, and a transparent finish too.
Xiaomi has used a triple-lens camera for the first time on one of its phones, with a new Sony IMX586 sensor with 48-megapixels. Mi 9 has a 12-megapixel telephoto lens and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 117-degree viewing angle.
The 48-megapixel mode is not activated by default. You have to go to the Settings menu and choose it from there. The artificially intelligent night mode is also quite effective at exposing more detail in low-light shots without demeaning the quality or detail.
Battery, Security, and Charging
Xiaomi considers the Mi 9 has the fastest wireless charging yet available in a smartphone. It uses a proprietary technology built into a special wireless charger to deliver 20 watts of power into the phone’s 3,300mAh battery. It takes an hour and 40 minutes to full on the special wireless charging puck. Very impressive for wireless charging.
The great news is Xiaomi’s MIUI is adept at managing its power effectively, as even after an 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. day of using the phone consistently. It still will have more than 40-percent charge left. It uses Android 9.0 Piee, but it’s disguised underneath Xiaomi’s own MIUI 10 user interface.
Price, Warranty and Availability
The Xiaomi Mi 9 is already available in Europe and China. It is sold at 450 euros ($510) in Europe for the 6GB/64GB model, and 500 euros ($570) for the 6GB/128GB version, which is the same as the Mi Mix 3. The phone can be purchased from Xiaomi’s own online store and its retail partners.
It will not be available in the US, but you can import the phone through a third party. Xiaomi provides a two-year warranty on its smartphones in the UK.
Mi 9 is a super-fast smartphone that’s yours for a much lower price than expected. This is evident how quickly Xiaomi is maturing. This smartphone is compelling, high-performance that’s sure to become one of the year’s best.
